- Why is reading the Bible in context important? If you take scripture verses out of their setting, you can make them say almost anything. Context gives a clear meaning to what was written. Verses taken out of context can lead to great error. Most people get their Bible understanding from topical (meaning preaching on topics like healing, love etc) preaching. This can lead to over emphasizing certain parts of the Bible. Much error occurs through over emphasizing.
- We have the word (truth) but where is the power? Where is the Spirit? The word of God is what points you to the power; believing the word activates the power (see Wednesday Night video on "we have the word - where is the power"); the Power is not a feeling and sometimes it is not precipitable to anyone but the receiver (woman with an issue of blood)
- What does it mean to be touchy? easily offended, insulted
34. Where can we volunteer?
35. How can we involve young people? (currently one teaches in children's ministry, one has had some experience with sound booth)
36. Sometimes the slides are missing chapter and verse - will correct
37. Why is it important to be correctable and sometimes flexible? CORRECTABLE because it is the way God changes us; someone who is quickly offended or touchy will see very little growth. FLEXIBLE because different situations call for different responses and methods if you want to remain effective.
38. How should I read the Bible? When reading the Bible it is good to be aware of 3 things: Who is he writing to? (meaning who are these people - what is their situation) Why is he writing to them? (meaning what problems\doctrines is he addressing) What is he emphasizing? (what are the big points of emphasis)
39. We do we have a clock in the sanctuary? Does it cause us to rush through our services?
